Pet-Friendly Holidays in Gandia & Miramar: A Practical Guide
By Arnau Published
Travelling with a dog means asking not only where to sleep, but also where it can swim and walk. Here are your options for a pet-friendly holiday in Gandia and Miramar, plus what to check before you go.
Playa Can in Gandia
Gandia has a dedicated dog area, Playa Can, on l’Ahuir beach at the northern end of the municipality, beyond the naturist zone. It is marked with blue banners and has a lifeguard hut that explains the rules and provides stakes for tying up your dog. The beach is sandy with no rocks, which sensitive paws will appreciate. Check with Gandia’s tourist office for current opening times, season and rules before you go.
Basic rules
- Beaches without permission: in summer dog access is much stricter, and entering a beach that isn’t designated can mean a fine.
- Paperwork: carry your dog’s health passport and make sure the microchip details are up to date.
- Courtesy: always pick up after your dog and keep it under control.
- Off-season: winter gives you more room to walk on the sand, but always confirm the local rule.
Walks beyond the beach
The Marjal de Gandia wetlands and the Alquería del Duc have flat paths between lagoons and orange groves, ideal for a calm walk. As in any protected area, keep your dog on a lead, respect the wildlife and check the site’s rules.

Beating the heat
- Walk early or at sunset, when sand and pavement are cooler.
- Always carry water and a bowl.
- Look for shade, and never leave your dog in the car.
- Ask before you sit down on a terrace whether dogs are allowed.
